Galaxy Guide Captain, assists visitors in exploring space with Starry Night Pro (space exploration software)

How did you become involved in Space Odyssey?
I’m retired from the Air Force, and I was looking for a volunteer opportunity. I saw an ad in the paper for Museum Galaxy Guides. Since I’ve always been interested in space, I feel very fortunate to have seen that ad and become a part of this experience.

How did you become a Galaxy Guide Captain?
I’d volunteered before, at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo, so I’d had some experience, and I wanted to help out in that capacity.

What are the responsibilities for Guide Captains?
We present new space science news to the Museum Galaxy Guides before each shift, as well as oversee the floor to make sure everything runs smoothly. We also facilitate ongoing training for the guides, serving as a liaison between the staff and volunteers. And, we assist visitors with the interactive exhibits, just like any other Museum Galaxy Guide.

What do you think is the best thing about Space Odyssey?
That it’s going to change every day. Each team of Museum Galaxy Guides will bring its own personality to the exhibition. It’s just exciting.
