The library's primary mission is to serve the Museum's staff, both paid and volunteer. In recognition of the value of its resources, the library is also available to local area educators, visiting scholars, Museum members, Museum visitors, and the general public.

The department's collections focus on the core subject specialties of the Museum: anthropology, archaeology, earth sciences, zoology, museum studies, and DMNS history.

Museum Archives: 1,200 cubic feet of Museum records and personal papers

Services
Library open to the public: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday (closed Sundays and holidays)
Lend in person to DMNS members and holders of valid Colorado library cards. Interlibrary loans and photocopier also available. Collections cataloged on international OCLC system.
Archives and Photo Archives available to the public by appointment: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday
