The Museum has given our mummies a new home. Five times the size of the exhibition it replaces, Egyptian Mummies
explores why the ancient Egyptians mummified their dead and explains step-by-step the mummification process.
This adventure allows visitors to come face-to-face with two 3,000-year-old mummies, discover beautiful coffins
and other tomb goods, and get a bird's-eye view of an Egyptian tomb.
The exhibition includes the mummies displayed in open coffins, two animal mummies, and a reproduction coffin built
by the Museum's Egyptian Study Society. Newly illustrated panels provide insight into mummification and burial
practices.
