Burning forest:
A wildfire is too large and dangerous to put out directly once the flames
reach a height of about ten feet. Then, firefighters work to contain it
by backburning, clearing, and dropping fire retardantand hope for
rain. Pictured is the 1996 Buffalo Creek, Colorado, wildfire that burned
nearly 12,000 acres of forest.
