  • Arachnology (Spiders and their kin) Data Entry Assistant

    Provide technical support with the arachnid collections in the Zoology Department. Assist the curator with timely cataloging of new acquisitions, entering collections data into the computer database, and checking the accuracy of past data entries.

  • Arachnology Collections Assistant

    The Department of Zoology is looking for volunteers to work with the arachnology collection. Volunteers will provide support in the preservation of specimens, creating archival data labels, determining latitude and longitude of collecting locales, and identifying specimens to family and down to species.

    Do you love bugs? Are you computer savvy? Do you have gentle and steady hands? Zoology is looking for volunteers to provide support with databasing and cataloging unrecorded insect specimens. Must be comfortable handling small-pinned specimens.

  • Expedition Health Exhibit Guide

    Exhibit Guides support the educational objectives in Expedition Health by working in teams to facilitate a variety of health and wellness activities for the visitors.  They work with Museum collections on touch carts, greet visitors and assist in our experiment area, Biology Base Camp.

  • Museum Ambassador

    There’s nothing better than receiving a warm welcome and useful information when you visit a place for the first time – or the 100th time! Museum Ambassadors provide excellent customer service by greeting guests when they first arrive, providing way finding throughout the Museum, answering phones at the Information Desk, and helping guests plan their visit. And that’s just a start! Museum Ambassadors also assist with special events and facilitate Exploration Stations (educational touch-carts). We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic and flexible volunteers who are excited to learn what makes this Museum so special and how to share this knowledge with our audience. Maybe that’s you!

    Provide technical support with databasing the vertebrate collections in the Zoology Department. Assist with entering data into the database, georeferencing collection localities, researching, and checking the accuracy of past entries.

Please remember that volunteer placement is a selective process and not all applicants are accepted into the program. The Museum reserves the right to place volunteers in the area staff feels is best suited to the applicant's skills and the needs of the Museum. A minimum commitment of one year is required for all volunteer positions.

 

Family Volunteers

Many Museum volunteers are members of a family group volunteering together, making a critical contribution to the volunteer corps. Children six through 14 are welcome to volunteer as members of a family group, with a responsible adult who participates as a volunteer. Separate applications should be submitted for each individual, including the children. Adults 18 and older, please complete the Adult Volunteer Application (PDF | 627KB). Youth between the ages of 6-14, please complete the Youth Volunteer Application (PDF | 627KB)

Youth Volunteer Application

Teen applicants must be between the ages of 14-17. Applicants must:

  • Submit a Youth Volunteer Application (PDF | 627KB)
  • Parent or Guardian must complete and sign the release of liability portion of the application and co-sign the application
  • Attach a short essay (Essay topic: Why do you think volunteering is important and why do you want to volunteer at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science?)
